Hyderabad faces a corruption scandal involving high-ranking officials. Allegations have emerged against senior IAS officers in Telangana, causing concern across the state’s bureaucracy. A significant incident involved a senior official with alleged possession of Rs 50 crore in black money within GHMC limits, shaking the state administration.
The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) is investigating the matter. They are focusing on the senior official and two subordinates accused of accepting bribes for approving projects in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) areas. The official reportedly asked businesspeople to convert illicit money into legal funds, offering them a substantial commission.
Sources revealed that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, responsible for the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA & UD) Department, requested a detailed report on these corruption claims. Based on the findings, the Chief Minister plans to take decisive action.
It has also been discovered that two other senior officials under the accused have allegedly gained wealth rapidly through corrupt means. The government has received numerous complaints about senior IAS officers exploiting their positions for financial gain. In response, the state has promised to address the corruption among both minor and major offenders.
Reports indicate that additional allegations against several Commissioners and Secretaries are under scrutiny. Some IAS officials are accused of making decisions independently for personal financial benefit, particularly in revenue-generating departments and those granting real estate permissions. In the past, a senior official allegedly sought money for his daughter’s lavish wedding, and now, several officials are implicated in corruption within departments overseen by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and other key cabinet ministers.
