Gadwal: CPM District Secretary A. Venkataswamy has urged the Central Government to create a law that provides 42% reservations for Backward Classes (BCs). This demand was made during a protest organized by the CPM at the Old Bus Stand in the district on Saturday. The protest aimed to push for this reservation law to be added to the Ninth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.

Venkataswamy highlighted that the Telangana State Government had already passed a resolution supporting 42% BC reservations and sent it to the Centre for approval. However, he accused the Centre of neglecting this request and instead, promoting divisive politics. He criticized the BJP for ignoring the main goal of reservations, which is to provide equality in areas like education and jobs for the backward classes.

He claimed that the BJP is sidelining BC reservations while implementing similar policies in states they govern. He accused them of trying to create religious divides in Telangana by framing the reservation issue in a religious context. Venkataswamy called for a constitutional amendment to secure legal protection for BC reservations.

Venkataswamy criticized the Congress Party for its lack of commitment to the reservation issue. He noted that while the CPM is actively pushing for BC reservations, its leaders are being unjustly detained. He urged the Congress to unite with other parties in a strong fight against the Centre and reaffirmed the CPM‘s dedication to this cause.

Other speakers, including All-Party Committee President Nagar Doddi Venkataramulu and advocate Madhusudhan Babu, called on the Centre to change its stance and pass the reservation law. They accused the government of weakening support for the poor and marginalized and urged public opposition to such actions.
