Cybercrime in Telangana has increased by 48.47% in 2022 compared to the previous year. Economic offences have increased by 41.37% and crimes related to cheating have increased by 43.30%. The Director General of Police Telangana, Ravi Gupta, released a book called “Crime in Telangana -2022” on Tuesday. The Telangana police are focusing on investigation and prosecution and are using scientific tools, forensic science, and cyber technology to gather digital evidence for convictions. In 2022, 1,74,205 CCTV cameras were installed in Telangana, bringing the total number of cameras to 10,25,849, which helped detect 18,234 cases.

According to the National Crime Records Bureau’s Crime in India 2022 report, Hyderabad ranked third as the “Safest City of India 2022” after Kolkata and Pune, with the least number of cognizable offences per lakh population. Mahesh Bhagwat, who supervised the compilation of the book, stated that this valuable information not only helps law enforcement authorities create effective crime prevention strategies but also facilitates discussions and debates on public safety.
