In August 2025, the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police conducted operations across various states, arresting 61 individuals from 14 states. They returned Rs 1,01,39,338 to those who fell victim to fraud. Throughout the month, the police received 338 complaints, filed 233 FIRs at the Cyber Crime Police Station, and registered 90 more in Zonal Cyber Cells.
Refunds were provided for different types of fraud. Trading fraud involved 13 suspects, investment fraud had 12, and social media scams accounted for 11. Other frauds included insurance (8 suspects), digital arrest scams (3), unauthorized transactions (3), impersonation (2), loan fraud (2), copyright violations (5), OTP frauds (2), and repeated insurance frauds. These individuals were linked to 132 cases across the country, including 30 in Telangana. The police recovered 50 mobile phones, 21 cheque books, 12 passbooks, 51 ATM/debit cards, 7 laptops, 3 company stamps, and 82 SIM cards.
Victims received Rs 52,13,312 for investment fraud, Rs 16,23,187 for trading fraud, Rs 15,79,735 for loan fraud, and Rs 8,86,643 for OTP fraud. Additionally, Rs 3,48,000 was refunded for job fraud, Rs 2,25,452 for gaming fraud, Rs 2,17,009 for business fraud, and Rs 46,000 for digital arrest fraud. These refunds totaled over Rs 1 crore in August.
Complex fraud networks often use social media, fake trading platforms, and group chats. These operations sometimes involve international criminals and cryptocurrency.
The Hyderabad Police urge the public to be cautious. They advise against responding to suspicious social media messages and downloading unknown files. Any cyber fraud should be reported immediately via the national helpline 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in. People are warned against fake investment groups on platforms like Telegram, WhatsApp, X, Instagram, and Facebook. It is recommended to use only SEBI-approved and registered apps for financial transactions.
