Secunderabad Cantonment Board MLA Lasya Nandita passed away in a road accident, prompting the Election Commission to announce by-polls for the vacant seat. This has led to a surge in candidates vying for tickets from different political parties.

The Secunderabad Cantonment is one of the seven Assembly segments in the Malkajgiri Parliamentary constituency. Nandita won the previous election on the BRS ticket, defeating the BJP candidate N Sriganesh by 17,169 votes in 2023.

Additionally, Priyadarshini Medi from BSP and GV Vennela from Congress are also in the running for the ticket.
