The Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited is setting up an ethanol bio-refinery in Bargarh district. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan visited the site and said the plant will help with green growth and sustainable development. The plant will create job opportunities for local youth and boost farmers’ income by producing ethanol from straw, waste, and spoiled rice. The bio-refinery will have the capacity to produce 3 crore liters of fuel-grade ethanol annually and cost around Rs 1,607 crore. Ethanol produced from this plant will be blended with petrol.

Pradhan said Bargarh district is an agricultural region, and the Modi government decided to set up the bio-refinery there to reduce environmental pollution and provide economic benefits to farmers. He also suggested developing technology-based skill courses and modules in regional government ITI institutes to prepare skilled human resources for this project.
