Wanaparthy District: Officials recently inspected a paddy purchasing center to check the quality of the paddy, its moisture levels, and the records being kept. They found that the paddy had a lot of dirt and grass in it. The staff at the center were told to clean the paddy properly using a pedestal fan and a paddy cleaner before buying it.
They also stressed the importance of keeping proper records. The details of the paddy received and its moisture levels should be noted every day in the correct format. Agricultural officers were advised to make sure that farmers harvest paddy that meets good quality standards. Since rice millers expect high-quality grain, the paddy given to them should also be of the same quality.
The District Collector was unhappy with the poor conditions at the Rajpet purchasing center. He was especially upset about the lack of proper facilities and badly maintained records. He ordered that different types of paddy (Doddu and Sanna) should be handled separately. Also, only trained staff should be in charge of purchasing centers.
The Collector reminded everyone that the paddy collected from farmers must be milled and returned to the Food Corporation of India (FCI) on time.
On Monday morning, paddy was moved from the Amarachinta purchase center to Raghavendra Industry in Rajanagaram. That evening, the Collector visited the rice mill to check the milling process. While there, he asked the mill owner how much rice is produced from a quintal of paddy and whether there were any issues.
The miller, Narender, used a portable test milling machine to show that 67 grams of rice were obtained from 100 grams of paddy, which he said was a good result. He told the Collector that the paddy was of good quality. However, he also mentioned that sometimes the paddy fields are full of mud and grass, which affects the quality. If cleaner paddy is provided, better-quality rice can be produced.
District Civil Supply Officer Vishwanath, local Tahsildar Ramesh Reddy, and other officials accompanied the Collector during the inspection.
