Gadwal: In a major political event, senior Congress leaders in Gadwal showed strong support for the Muslim community in opposing the Wakf Amendment Bill. This bill was introduced by the BJP-led central government and has sparked concerns among many. A large and peaceful protest rally was held by the Wakf Board Joint Action Committee. Many citizens, social activists, and political leaders joined the rally.
The protest started at the Dargah in Dharur Met and ended at the District Collectorate. There, the protestors submitted a formal letter to Additional Collector Tirupathayya. The letter asked the government to cancel the Wakf Amendment Bill. Protestors said the bill would harm the rights and properties of the Muslim minority community.
Congress leaders such as former ZP Chairperson and Gadwal Constituency In-Charge Sarithamma, and former Municipal Chairman B.S. Keshav, joined the rally. Speaking at the event, Sarithamma strongly criticized the central government. She said the bill was a way to take over Muslim properties using legal tricks.
Sarithamma also accused the BJP government of trying to divide the country and go against the Constitution. “We will not allow anyone to divide the nation or attack the rights of minorities,” she said. She added that the Congress Party supports unity, secularism, and the protection of all citizens’ rights.
She urged people to see the bill not just as a threat to one community, but as a danger to the core values of India. Many other Congress leaders and local representatives were part of the protest. These included:
– Town Congress President Mohammed Ishaq
– Advocate Shafeeullah
– Leaders Gattu Ghouse and Mabasha
– Former Councillors Bhaskar Yadav, Kotesh, Mahesh, Janardhan Reddy
– Local figures like Gonupadu Srinivas Goud, D.R. Sridhar, Shetty Atmakur Lakshman, Patapalem Anand Goud, Jammiched Timothi, Samivulla, Kauser Beg, Nagar Doddi Venkataramulu, Kurva Pallayya, Rahim, Kummari Narayana, Iqbal, Builder Ramakrishna, and Jameel
The protest ended peacefully. Leaders called for a united fight across the country against the bill. They also promised to continue their legal and democratic efforts until the bill is withdrawn.
