Hyderabad: Hyderabad has received another major boost to its rapidly expanding aerospace ecosystem, with GMR Aero Technic announcing a strategic collaboration with Honeywell Aerospace Technologies to provide maintenance services for LEAP engine components. The partnership is expected to strengthen the city’s position as one of India’s leading aviation maintenance and aerospace manufacturing hubs.

The collaboration will enable GMR Aero Technic, located at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Hyderabad, to expand its Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) capabilities by servicing critical components used in CFM International LEAP aircraft engines, which power many of the world’s latest-generation commercial aircraft.

Boost for Hyderabad’s MRO Industry

The agreement marks another milestone for Hyderabad’s growing aviation ecosystem. By adding LEAP engine component repair capabilities, GMR Aero Technic is expected to strengthen its presence in the global aircraft maintenance market while supporting airlines operating modern fleets equipped with LEAP engines.

The collaboration is also expected to reduce dependence on overseas maintenance facilities, improve turnaround times for airlines and enhance India’s indigenous aerospace servicing capabilities.

What are LEAP Engines?

The LEAP (Leading Edge Aviation Propulsion) engine family, developed by CFM International—a joint venture between GE Aerospace and Safran Aircraft Engines—is among the most widely used commercial aircraft engines in the world.

LEAP engines power several of today’s most popular narrow-body aircraft, including:

  • Airbus A320neo family
  • Boeing 737 MAX
  • COMAC C919

With airlines across India and internationally rapidly expanding fleets of these aircraft, demand for certified maintenance and repair facilities continues to grow.

Major Advantages of the Partnership

According to information released alongside the announcement, the collaboration is expected to deliver several benefits:

  • Expansion of LEAP engine component maintenance capabilities.
  • Strengthening of Hyderabad’s Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) ecosystem.
  • Support for India’s growing commercial aviation sector.
  • Creation of high-skilled employment opportunities in aerospace engineering.
  • Further positioning Hyderabad as an emerging global aviation and aerospace hub.

Hyderabad Emerging as India’s Aerospace Capital

Over the past decade, Hyderabad has evolved into one of India’s fastest-growing aerospace and defence manufacturing centres.
