Sri Lankan cricketer Matheesha Pathirana was named Player of the Match after taking 3/15 in Chennai Super Kings’ win over Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023. Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni praised Pathirana for his consistency and unique bowling action, which makes it difficult for batters to pick him easily. Dhoni suggested that Pathirana should not play Test cricket and focus on ICC tournaments, as he could be a great asset to Sri Lankan cricket if protected and nurtured properly.
In the match, CSK chased down Mumbai Indians’ below-par target of 139/8 in 17.4 overs, with Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway scoring the bulk of the runs. Pathirana thanked the team management for giving him confidence, and expressed his happiness with his best T20 bowling figures.
