External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar spoke about the mistakes made during the Nehruvian era that are causing issues on India’s borders today. He was addressing a talk on foreign policy organized by the Forum for Nationalist Thinkers Hyderabad Chapter.

Dr Jaishankar explained how India’s foreign policy decisions were influenced by diffidence for a long time, leading to problems with China and Pakistan. He highlighted decisions made during the Nehruvian era, such as the Indo-China war of 1962 and India’s failure to secure a permanent seat in the UN Security Council.

He also pointed out the lack of diplomatic relations with Israel until recent years, questioning the influence of vote bank politics on foreign policy decisions. However, he emphasized that India has become more confident in international affairs in the last decade, asserting its stand and prioritizing national interests.

Dr Jaishankar cited examples like buying oil from Russia despite Western sanctions, hosting the G-20 Summit successfully, and ensuring the safety of Indians in conflict zones. He noted that India’s position as the fifth largest economy in the world reflects its pursuit of national interests above all else.
