Dr. K Laxman, a Rajya Sabha MP and member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), is set to speak at a major international event focusing on public financial oversight. His presentation, titled “Assessing PAC Effectiveness, Measuring Impact, and Enhancing Performance,” will highlight key insights from his work in India.
The talk will be part of the Asia-Pacific Regional Workshop, which runs from May 19 to 21 in Nadi, Fiji Islands. This important event is jointly hosted by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association UK and the Parliament of the Republic of Fiji.
Dr. Laxman will represent India alongside KC Venugopal, who currently chairs the PAC. During his session on May 21, Dr. Laxman will share real-life experiences from his time on the committee. He plans to discuss how the PAC functions in India, suggest ways to improve its efficiency, and explore how PAC recommendations can create real change.
He will also highlight the role of technology in improving transparency and accountability in public spending. In addition, Dr. Laxman will introduce some innovative methods that can help PACs conduct better investigations and produce more impactful reports.
The goal of the workshop is to strengthen PACs across Asia-Pacific countries, helping them better monitor public finances and hold governments accountable. The event brings together lawmakers from different nations to exchange ideas and develop best practices for financial oversight.
