The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad, seized 1,481.780 grams of foreign-origin gold worth about ₹2.25 crore at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA).
Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officers monitored an inbound international flight. The information indicated that gold had been hidden on the aircraft during an earlier foreign leg and was to be removed during its onward domestic journey to Hyderabad.
Officers intercepted a passenger who arrived at RGIA from Tiruchirappalli. During a search, they found six pieces of gold wrapped in blue adhesive tape and carbon paper.
The gold was concealed in a specially designed pouch worn beneath the passenger’s clothes. During the investigation, the passenger said he had collected it from inside the aircraft, where it had allegedly been hidden during the preceding foreign leg.
The DRI seized the gold under the Customs Act, 1962. The passenger was arrested on October 6, 2026, under the relevant provisions of the Act.
