A 22-year-old man was arrested on Sunday night after allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and fatally hitting a pedestrian near the Rajendranagar DCP Office. The accused, identified as Sai Nithin from Manasa Hills, was driving a red Skoda Rapid bearing registration number TS09 FB 4554 when the incident occurred. The unidentified victim was crossing the road when the speeding vehicle struck him, resulting in his death on the spot. Local residents immediately chased down the driver after he allegedly attempted to flee the scene without stopping to help the injured pedestrian.
According to police reports, Sai Nithin was found to be heavily intoxicated at the time of his arrest. Officials stated that he was in such an inebriated state that he could not even provide his name to the investigating officers. A breathanalyser test conducted on the accused showed a blood alcohol concentration reading of 180, which is significantly higher than the legal limit. The high BAC reading indicates severe intoxication and raises serious questions about the driver’s decision to operate a vehicle in such a condition. A young woman who was travelling in the car at the time of the accident was also present at the scene but declined to make any statement to the authorities.
The Rajendranagar Police responded swiftly to the incident and took the accused into custody. The victim’s body was shifted to Osmania Hospital for a post-mortem examination as part of the standard investigative procedure. The identity of the deceased pedestrian has not yet been established, and police are working to trace his family members. A case has been registered against the accused driver under relevant sections of the law pertaining to drunk driving, rash and negligent driving, and causing death by negligence.
The investigation into the fatal accident is currently underway, with police examining all aspects of the case including vehicle speed, road conditions, and the sequence of events leading to the collision. Authorities are also reviewing any available CCTV footage from the area to gather additional evidence.
