The Supreme Court has extended the protection given to four members of the Editors Guild of India (EGI) until September 15. This protection is against any coercive action related to two FIRs filed against them. The court has asked the Manipur government for their opinion on whether the case should be transferred to the Delhi High Court for further consideration.
The Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, along with Justices P S Narasimha and Manoj Misra, questioned how FIRs were filed based on a report from the EGI’s fact-finding committee. They pointed out that the four members were not involved in any criminal activities.
