Hyderabad: C Sudharshan Reddy, the Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana, has instructed all District Collectors and Electoral Registration Officers to prepare for the upcoming Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls. This involves organizing polling stations, filling vacant positions, and training officials. The instructions were given during a video conference on Monday.
Reddy emphasized the need to follow Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines. Polling stations with more than 1,200 voters need adjustment to improve voter access. New polling sites should be identified in high-rise buildings, housing societies, and slum areas. It’s crucial to fill all vacant roles like EROs, Assistant EROs, and Booth Level Officers immediately. Additional BLOs should be appointed where new polling stations are expected. All officials must receive thorough training on electoral laws, IT systems, and conduct house-to-house verification.
The ECI highlights the importance of pre-revision activities to ensure accurate electoral rolls. The aim is to distribute voters fairly and keep families at the same polling stations. Surveys will focus on community halls in high-rise buildings, RWA colonies, and nearby slum areas to enhance polling access.
Reddy pointed out that more polling stations will require more BLOs for verification and assisting voters with forms. Training programs will educate EROs, AEROs, BLOs, and supervisors on electoral laws and new IT tools for efficient data management. BLOs will conduct house-to-house surveys to update voter information and assist with form submissions.
