Hyderabad: Former Reserve Bank Governor Dr. C Rangarajan highlighted the importance of combining domain knowledge with data-driven analytical skills. He emphasized the need to apply updated knowledge in every aspect of Development Studies.

Speaking as the chief guest at the launch of a PhD programme for working professionals in Development Studies and Public Policy at the School of Social Sciences, ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education, he discussed the programme’s unique structure. He noted that knowledge in these fields is rapidly expanding, and hence, the programme is intentionally designed to be challenging for its scholars.

Dr. Rangarajan explained that Development Studies is inherently multi-disciplinary, connecting fields like Economics, Political Science, and Statistics. Political Science, for instance, helps in understanding how the benefits of economic principles are distributed in society. He also stressed the importance of relating Development Studies to foundational disciplines like Statistics.
