The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has finished nala works at Al-Jubail colony in Falaknuma as part of the Strategic Nala Development Programme (SNDP). This will help prevent flooding during rains. A retaining wall worth Rs 6 crore has been built in Falaknuma, and encroachments have been cleared to extend the nala.
During the 2020 Hyderabad floods, Al-Jubail colony experienced severe waterlogging for about 15 days due to the overflow of the open nala. The areas along the path from Ali Nagar to Falaknuma bridge, including Al-Jubail colony, Hashamabad, Ali Nagar, and Ghazi-e-Millat Colony, were heavily affected.
The GHMC’s Town Planning wing has identified and demolished 36 encroached structures along the nala stretch from Ali Nagar to Falaknuma bridge. They have also completed the construction of a retaining wall worth Rs 6 crore to prevent flooding and nala overflow.
According to the GHMC’s Town Planning wing, they have completed the works of nala encroachments and the retaining wall construction. They have identified a total of 36 structures that were encroached and demolished them. The retaining wall worth Rs 6 crore has been built to prevent flooding and nala overflow.
Residents are hopeful that with the extension of the nala and the establishment of the retaining wall, there will be no more overflow of water and flooding in the area.
A joint inspection of works related to Falaknuma Rail over Bridge (RoB) was conducted by engineers from South-Central Railway, GHMC, waterworks, and traffic police along with public representatives.
Bahadurpura MLA Mohd Moazam Khan and AIMIM MLC Mirza Rahmath Baig discussed the ongoing construction works of a parallel bridge next to the existing RoB. The first phase of the bridge has been reconstructed, but work on the parallel bridge is still pending.
The GHMC and railways need to coordinate their efforts. The railways will handle the work on the tracks, while the remaining work will be done by the GHMC.
MLA Moazam Khan stated that the inspection was conducted to understand the ground realities of the project and facilitate coordination between different agencies involved.
The authorities assured the MLA that the work would be expedited and completed by the end of the year.
