Fisheries Ministry promotes eLISS

The Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying kicked off a two-day training workshop in Hyderabad for the Southern Zone States on Friday. This event, held at the TGIRD Training Institute, focuses on teaching Nodal and District Nodal Officers how to use the eLISS app software. The participating states are Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, and Telangana. The workshop concludes on November 29.

B Gopi, Director of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry for the Government of Telangana, officially opened the program. Jagat Hazarika, a Statistical Advisor from the Department of Livestock Statistics, was also present at the inauguration.

During his opening speech, the Director stressed how vital livestock statistical data is for developing national policies. He pointed out that collecting accurate and timely data is crucial for planning and executing livestock sector schemes effectively.

Jagat Hazarika elaborated on how data from village-level surveys will be collected and reported at state, national, and global levels. This process will bolster India’s livestock statistics and improve international reporting standards.

Dr. Prachi Mishra Sahu, a Senior Scientist at IASRI, shared that since 2023–24, livestock data has been digitized nationwide using the eLISS app software. She emphasized that the app has improved data collection by making it more efficient, transparent, and accessible for all stakeholders.

The goal of the workshop is to train officers to use the eLISS platform effectively, enabling them to manage livestock statistics better. With officers from several southern states participating, this initiative is a significant step towards enhancing India’s livestock data system and supporting the creation of evidence-based policies.
