Thousands of voters across Telangana are facing prolonged delays in getting their voter registration applications processed, with lakhs of Form 6 and Form 8 applications remaining stuck for over two months. Despite the completion of the initial phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, applicants who submitted requests for new voter IDs or corrections to existing entries continue to wait for approval.
The primary bottleneck has been identified by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) who report that the digital approval system for processing these applications has not been activated yet. Form 6 is used for new voter registrations, while Form 8 is meant for corrections and updates to existing voter details including names, addresses, photographs, and other particulars in the electoral database.
BLOs across the state have confirmed that even after completing the house-to-house enumeration phase, they are unable to process the pending applications due to system limitations. The approval option that would allow them to clear the backlog and forward applications to Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) for final processing remains disabled on the official portal.
The situation has created significant frustration among applicants who submitted their forms during or shortly after the SIR process. Many first-time voters waiting for their Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) and existing voters seeking corrections to their details are left in limbo without any clear timeline for resolution.
Sources within the election department indicate that the volume of pending applications runs into lakhs across Telangana. The delay affects both urban and rural constituencies, with BLOs reporting that they receive daily inquiries from concerned applicants about the status of their submissions.
Officials have advised affected voters to regularly check their application status on the voters.eci.gov.in portal for any updates. Applicants can also reach out to their local BLOs directly or contact the dedicated 1950 helpline for information regarding their pending applications.
The electoral authorities have not yet announced when the system will be activated to enable BLOs to resume processing the pending applications. Until the digital approval mechanism is restored, the large backlog of Form 6 and Form 8 applications is expected to remain unresolved, leaving thousands of voters waiting for their electoral enrollment and correction requests to be addressed.
