Hyderabad: On January 5, the Keesara police arrested five individuals after a failed robbery attempt at a jewellery store in Nagaram. The suspects include Nazeem Azeez Kotadiya, Bishu Karma Ekendar Singh, Mohd Saif Ali alias Adnam, Rajendar Singh alias Raj Singh, and Ratan Singh Bahadur alias Ratan.
The gang usually scouted jewellery shops before they struck. On January 4, Nazeem Kotadiya and Bishu Singh were caught on CCTV trying to rob Balaji Jewellery Shop in daylight. They attacked the shop owner, Sandeep Gehloth, with an axe while his young son watched.
Despite the attack, Sandeep bravely fought back. Meanwhile, Mohd Saif Ali and Rajendar Singh, who were pretending to be customers, fled when the armed duo entered with an axe and a fake gun. Sandeep managed to recover a bag with some of the stolen jewellery, but the robbers escaped with gold mangalsutras.
Following a complaint from Sandeep’s wife, the police filed charges under Section 309(4) for robbery and Section 27 of the Arms Act. Both Nazeem and Saif have criminal records, and Ratan Singh Bahadur is noted as a rowdy at the Gudimalkapur police station.
The police have applied the Preventive Detention (PD) Act on Nazeem. They seized a Maruti Baleno, a Bajaj Pulsar, and a fake pistol from the suspects. Investigations are ongoing.
