Hyderabad: In a short span since taking charge as the first Commissioner of the newly formed Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) in February 2026, Srijana Gummalla, IAS has emerged as one of the most proactive administrators in the state. Her working style—marked by constant field presence, quick decisions, and visible outcomes—has set a new tone for urban governance in Hyderabad’s rapidly growing IT corridor.

From the very first week, the focus was clear: visible action, strict accountability, and faster execution. Early morning inspections, surprise visits, and direct interaction with citizens became routine, signaling a shift from office-based administration to on-ground governance.

Cleanliness as a Priority, Not a Campaign

Sanitation has been one of the most visible areas of intervention. Commissioner Gummalla personally led inspections across Medchal, Kompally, Ameenpur, Quthbullapur and surrounding areas, enforcing strict implementation of door-to-door waste collection and cracking down on littering and garbage burning.

Instead of one-time drives, the approach has been continuous monitoring and enforcement. Lake clean-up efforts at places like Ameenpur and Ambhir Lake have also gained pace, with regular reviews and community participation initiatives such as “Swachh Sunday” drives.

Pushing Infrastructure Without Delays

On the infrastructure front, the administration has moved with unusual speed. Multiple review meetings have been held to fast-track key H-CITI projects, including flyovers, underpasses, and major road expansions across Cyberabad.

Projects that typically face delays—such as land acquisition and clearances—are being closely monitored with deadlines. Road widening works in high-traffic areas and connectivity improvements between IT hubs are being pushed as priority interventions.

Firm Action on Encroachments & Planning

Town planning has also seen stricter enforcement. The administration has taken steps to remove encroachments, act against unauthorized constructions, and speed up building approvals through digital systems like BuildNow.

This combination of ease of approval with strict enforcement is being seen as an attempt to balance growth with regulation.

Preparing Cyberabad for Future Challenges

Recognizing recurring urban issues, special attention has been given to flood management and drainage systems. Joint inspections with multiple departments have focused on improving stormwater flow, lake connectivity, and sewage diversion, especially in flood-prone zones.

This forward-looking approach reflects an attempt to address problems before they escalate during monsoon seasons.

Direct Connect with Citizens

One of the notable aspects of her administration has been direct citizen engagement. Complaints received through various channels, including WhatsApp, are being reviewed actively, and field visits often include interactions with residents.

Regular updates and transparency in communication have helped build a sense of accountability and responsiveness within the system.

Coordinated Governance Model

Another key feature has been coordination with multiple departments—GHMC, HMDA, HMWSSB, Police, and Irrigation. This integrated approach has helped in unlocking stalled works and ensuring smoother execution of projects.

Instead of fragmented efforts, the focus has been on joint planning and execution, especially in complex urban issues like traffic, drainage, and infrastructure expansion.

Setting the Tone for a New Corporation

In just a few months, the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation has begun to establish itself as a more agile and action-driven civic body. Much of this momentum is being attributed to the leadership style of Commissioner Srijana Gummalla.

Her approach—combining field presence, strict monitoring, and clear timelines—has not only accelerated ongoing works but also set expectations for how urban governance can function in fast-growing cities.

For many observers, the early months of CMC under her leadership suggest a model where decisions are faster, execution is visible, and accountability is direct.
