Suryapet is home to Guntakandla Jagadish Reddy, known as GJR, a prominent figure in Telangana’s politics. Born in 1965 in Nagaram Village, GJR’s journey from student leader to seasoned politician is inspiring.
GJR completed his education at Sri Venkateshwara Degree College and Siddartha Law College. As a lawyer and BAR Association president, he made a mark in the legal field before joining the Telangana movement in 2001.
Being a close aide to K Chandrashekar Rao, GJR played a key role in Telangana’s formation. He won the Suryapet Assembly seat in 2014 and retained it in the 2018 and 2023 elections.
Recognized for his contributions, GJR served as a minister in the BRS-led government, focusing on Education and Energy sectors. He also elevated Suryapet to district status, driving growth and development in the region.
GJR’s dedication to his constituency and philanthropic activities have earned him popularity among the people, leading to his victory in the 2023 elections as a ‘hat-trick MLA’. His political journey showcases his commitment to Telangana’s development.
