The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) launched a major encroachment removal drive across multiple key locations in Hyderabad on April 4, 2026. The operation aimed at clearing illegal structures and obstructions from public roads to ensure smoother traffic movement and protect public spaces from unauthorized occupation. The civic body has intensified its efforts to reclaim footpaths and road margins that have been encroached upon by vendors and unauthorized establishments.

GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan personally inspected the encroachment removal operations at Jambagh and Goshamahal areas. During the inspection, he directed municipal officials to ensure systematic and effective implementation of the drive. The Commissioner emphasized the need for coordinated action to permanently address the encroachment issue and prevent future violations on public land.

The anti-encroachment drive covered four major areas including Jambagh, Goshamahal, Attapur, and Rikabgunj. Municipal teams deployed heavy machinery and workforce to remove illegal structures, temporary shops, and other obstructions that had been blocking carriageways and pedestrian pathways. The operation was conducted with police support to maintain law and order during the removal process.

The primary focus of the drive remained on clearing roads for better traffic movement and protecting public spaces from unauthorized use. GHMC officials stated that encroachments have been a major cause of traffic congestion in several busy areas of the city. The removal of these obstructions is expected to significantly improve vehicular movement and provide safer pedestrian access along major roads.

The civic body has been conducting regular anti-encroachment drives as part of its commitment toward maintaining encroachment-free roads and improved urban mobility. Municipal authorities have warned that strict action will be taken against those who attempt to re-occupy public spaces. The GHMC has also announced plans to install barricades and other preventive measures in cleared areas to discourage future encroachments.

The GHMC continues to prioritize urban infrastructure development and traffic management as part of its broader civic improvement initiatives. The municipal corporation has urged citizens to cooperate with the authorities and report any instances of illegal encroachment on public land. Officials stated that the drive will continue in other parts of the city in the coming weeks to ensure comprehensive clearance of all unauthorized structures from public roads and spaces.
