Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has started a special drive to keep the city safe and healthy during the rainy season. This initiative aims to prevent disease outbreaks by clearing garbage, fixing roads, removing debris, controlling mosquitoes, and checking homes in areas impacted by dengue.

This monsoon drive is happening in all 150 wards from July 29 to August 8. GHMC plans intensive cleaning from 5:30 AM to 1:30 PM, covering 15 wards each day, alongside their usual cleaning work.

The focus is on removing garbage, construction, and demolition waste, as well as any waste left by recent rains. GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan visited several areas in the Charminar and LB Nagar zones to oversee the work.

Sanitation workers are clearing roads, neighborhoods, and public spaces. They are also ensuring sewers are clean to prevent water from collecting. The entomology team is conducting fogging and anti-larvae operations to stop mosquito breeding.

Karnan emphasized the importance of keeping the city clean. He urged residents to use designated bins for waste disposal rather than littering the streets.

Encouraging community involvement, he invited local representatives and colony welfare associations to participate in maintaining cleanliness. After his inspections, Karnan gave officials instructions to ensure the drive’s success.

With the monsoon increasing the risk of disease spread, he stressed the need for collective efforts to boost the drive’s effectiveness. He also instructed Additional Commissioners to arrange adequate vehicles for waste removal and take action against non-compliance.

Karnan was joined by LB Nagar Zonal Commissioner Hemant Keshav Patil and other senior officials. Later, he toured the Charminar area with Charminar MLA Zulfiqar Ali, MLC Mirza Rahmat Baig, and other local leaders. He directed the officials to complete civic and development projects while preserving the area’s historical significance.
