Hyderabad: The Hyderabad River and Lake Development Authority (HYDRAA) took action today to remove illegal structures along the Musi River. The area affected stretches from Chaderghat Bridge to Osmania Hospital.
People had occupied land on the riverbanks without permission, building sheds by dumping soil. They rented these spaces for various purposes, mainly for parking vehicles. HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath reported that 9.62 acres were illegally taken. Tikaram Singh used 3.10 acres for an illegal business with sheds. Poonam Chand Yadav occupied 1.30 acres, while Jaya Krishna took over 5.22 acres.
Residents complained about these activities, which included anti-social behavior and illegal nurseries. In response, HYDRAA demolished the unauthorized sheds and reclaimed the land for the government.
In Anjaneya Nagar Colony, Moosapet, HYDRAA also cleared illegal use of 2,000 square yards of park land. This land was meant for a park, as approved by the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA).
Yasin, a local, was using the park land for business, storing tent materials, running sound systems, and repairing generators. He also had a tent shop nearby and expanded his business onto the park land.
Ranganath noted that GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation) had funded Rs 50 lakh to develop the park, including fencing. However, Yasin and others blocked this development. Residents complained to GHMC and police. HYDRAA investigated and took action to clear the encroachments. Fencing work started immediately to prevent further illegal activities.
