GHMC has been selected for the national award of Swachh Survekshan-2023. The invitation to participate in the award was sent to GHMC by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. The award is given to cities with a population of more than one lakh (national ranking) and cities with a population of less than one lakh (state and zonal ranking).
GHMC has been treating and discharging waste water from its water plus drains through STPs without causing harm to the environment. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has recognized GHMC as a water plus city and awarded it a three-star status. Currently, GHMC is in the three-star city ranking list as a Garbage Free City. However, it is expected to receive a five-star rating.
Over the years, GHMC has achieved several accolades in cleanliness surveys. It has been ranked among the top cities with a population of more than 10 lakh from 2015 to 2022. In 2018, it was awarded the Best State Capital during the Swachh Survey, and in 2019, it received the Best Metro City award. In the same year, it also achieved ODF++ status.
