Godavari River in Bhadrachalam is swelling due to upstream floodwaters and heavy rain in Telangana. By 7 am on Saturday, the river’s height surpassed 32.5 feet, causing parts of the local bathing areas to flood.
Officials alert that the Bhadrachalam water levels will keep rising as more water comes from upstream. As a safety measure, the Nara Sarila area at the popular Parnasala tourist spot in Dummugudem mandal is currently off-limits to visitors.
Heavy floods are also affecting the Thaliperu reservoir in Charla mandal. To protect Bhadrachalam town, motors have been set up to stop floodwaters from entering through sluices. Residents should stay alert as the situation may change rapidly.
