Hyderabad: The state government and the ruling Congress party are focusing on a clear strategy to win the upcoming local body elections. They are emphasizing a 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) as a key election topic.
The government has passed a law to provide this 42% BC quota in local elections. They have sent it to President Droupadi Murmu for approval. Although they’ve been waiting for four months, no approval has come yet. Insiders suggest the government plans to pressure the Centre to act on this before the state Election Commission announces the election dates. Telangana Congress MPs may visit the Rashtrapati Bhavan to push for presidential consent.
Meanwhile, the Congress party will campaign heavily on this 42% BC reservation, aiming to challenge the BJP both in the state and nationally. They intend to highlight the Centre’s delay in approving the quota during their election push. With BCs making up over 50% of the population, Congress hopes to gain a political edge by keeping this issue at the forefront throughout the elections.
The Congress has promised to allocate 42% of seats to BCs if the law isn’t enacted in time. Party leaders believe their existing welfare and development efforts have been well-received, and the BC quota will further strengthen their support in the local elections.
