The Central government has pushed the deadline for the Greater Warangal Smart City Project to December 31. This decision comes after continuous efforts by Warangal MP Kadiyam Kavya.
Earlier, Kavya appealed during the August Parliament session for more time to finish development projects in Warangal and Hanumakonda. Her appeal convinced the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to extend the timeline.
Previously, the project deadline was extended to March 2025 after requests from Kavya and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. Now, there are nine additional months to complete the Smart City works.
Many significant projects are close to completion. These include improvements in roads, drainage systems, public buildings, lake beautification, and greenery enhancement.
Some major tasks remain unfinished. These include the Pedda Waddepally Lake beautification, focusing on landscaping, lighting, greenery, pathways, and entry arches.
In Hanumakonda, central lighting, greenery, and drainage work at Padmakshi Gutta and NGOs Colony are pending.
In Warangal, stormwater drainage on Pothana Road and Papayyapeta is receiving final touches.
Projects worth Rs 12 crore for greenery, the construction of the Pothana Road arch, and development of smart roads in Karimabad (Dasara Road) and Rangashaipet–Ursu stretch await completion.
Kavya has instructed Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) officials and contractors to accelerate the work and regularly review progress. She stressed the importance of timely completion of lighting, pathways, and greenery to meet the new deadline.
The MP is confident that this extension will significantly aid in transforming Warangal and Hanumakonda into lively, modern urban centers under the Smart City Mission.
