Hyderabad: On Thursday, Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao directed officials to start paying for maize purchases directly into farmers’ bank accounts from tomorrow.
This initiative will help 55,904 farmers. Despite no assistance from the Central Government, the state took on the task of buying crops to protect maize farmers from losses.
So far, 2.45 lakh metric tons of maize have been bought from farmers. Starting tomorrow, Rs 588 crore will be deposited into their accounts.
The Minister stressed that supporting farmers is the state’s responsibility, and they aim to prevent any financial hardships for them.
