Gujarat Titans pacer Mohit Sharma had a successful match against Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2023 Qualifier 2, which helped his team qualify for the final against Chennai Super Kings. Sharma’s non-experimental strategy worked well against Suryakumar Yadav, as he grabbed a match-winning 5/10 from 2.2 overs. Despite losing Neha Wadhera and Rohit Sharma in quick succession, Mumbai Indians came back into the game with Tilak Varma, Cameron Green, and Suryakumar Yadav clobbering the opposition at will. However, Suryakumar’s dismissal triggered a collapse, and Mumbai Indians lost the match. Sharma revealed that sticking to basics against Suryakumar Yadav was what worked for him.

Sharma made up for lost chances after missing the initial three games and jumped to the third spot in the leading wicket-takers’ tally with 24 dismissals from 13 matches. After hitting a six, Suryakumar tried to go the same way again, but Sharma’s full-length delivery outfoxed him, and he missed the ball completely on the leg side, crashing onto his leg-stump. The game wasn’t over till the last ball, and Sharma said they had learned this lesson in the past.
