The new King and Queen of Britain, Charles III and Camilla, appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace twice, despite the rainy weather, to greet cheering crowds. They were joined by other members of the royal family, including Prince William, his wife Catherine, and their children. However, Prince Harry and Prince Andrew did not attend because they are not working royals anymore.
The event included a fly-past of military aircraft, but it had to be cut back because of the bad weather. After the display, the royals appeared on the balcony again for a shorter time. Many people had camped out overnight to see the family and were happy to have witnessed the event, even though the weather was not good.
This was the last scheduled public event for Charles and Camilla on that day. The media also noted that Charles’s mother, Queen Elizabeth II, made an unscheduled evening appearance from the same balcony at her own coronation in 1953.
