Gadwal: The headmaster of the Zilla Parishad High School (Boys) in Aiza has been suspended. District Collector B.M. Santosh took this action after discovering students left before school hours ended.

On Tuesday, the Collector made an unannounced visit to the school. He found no students present during normal class time. He expressed concern and asked the staff why students were sent home when no official holiday was announced.

Teachers explained that students left to celebrate Mala Punnami (Mahalaya Pournami), a local festival. The Collector insisted that holidays require government approval and stressed the importance of daily school attendance for effective learning. He instructed staff to ensure full attendance of both teachers and students.

As a result of the inspection, headmaster Sheshapani Sharma was suspended for negligence. The Collector also checked attendance records and reminded teachers that providing quality education is their main responsibility.

Mandal Education Officer Ramulu, teaching staff, and other officials were present during the inspection.

The suspension has caused local residents to criticize the decision. They argue that Mala Punnami is a well-known festival in the Nadigadda area, suggesting the Collector from Karnataka might not understand its importance. Residents believe the suspension was too severe and have asked for it to be reconsidered.

Some locals also feel that the focus should be on addressing corruption among revenue officials and health officers rather than punishing a school headmaster who acted with good intentions.

This situation has sparked a discussion about balancing school discipline with respecting local traditions. Citizens are calling for a more thoughtful approach.
