The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has invited tenders for a proposed 9-km elevated corridor that will connect Banjara Hills Road No. 12 with Shilpa Layout in Gachibowli. The move marks a significant step towards addressing the increasing traffic congestion in West Hyderabad. Online bids for the project will be accepted until September 22, with work expected to begin after the tendering process is completed and an implementing agency is selected. The project is estimated to cost around ₹1,656 crore and will be implemented under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) model.
The elevated corridor has been planned to provide relief to motorists navigating through some of the city’s busiest areas, including Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Film Nagar, Gachibowli and HITEC City. The route is expected to offer an alternative to congested surface roads and help drivers bypass several busy junctions. A survey for the project has already been completed, and officials indicate that limited land acquisition will be required for the implementation of the corridor. The six-lane elevated route is aimed at improving connectivity towards the Financial District and easing traffic flow along a key city corridor.
The 9-km corridor will be developed in two distinct phases, with the Detailed Project Report already prepared. Phase-I will feature a nearly 5-km elevated stretch connecting Film Nagar with Shilpa Layout in Gachibowli. Phase-II will cover a further 4-km stretch running from the Police Command and Control Centre at Banjara Hills Road No. 12 to Hakimpet Kunta. This phased approach is intended to ensure systematic implementation and minimize disruption to existing traffic patterns during construction.
To facilitate smooth entry and exit, ramps have been proposed at six strategic locations along the corridor. These include Film Nagar, Nane Road, Jubilee Hills Road No. 52, ITC Kohenur Road, T-Hub Junction and the Mindspace area. The ramps are designed to enable motorists to access the elevated corridor at key points while reducing pressure on the existing surface-road network. This infrastructure is expected to significantly improve travel times for commuters heading towards the IT and financial hubs in the western part of the city.
The corridor is also being designed with future infrastructure requirements in mind. Officials have indicated that the structure will be planned to accommodate a potential Metro Rail corridor along these routes in the future. This forward-looking approach aims to reduce the possibility of major infrastructure conflicts and minimize the need for additional construction work later. The project is therefore being positioned as part of a broader long-term integrated transport strategy for West Hyderabad, rather than just a short-term traffic intervention.
The elevated corridor project comes as part of ongoing efforts to modernize Hyderabad’s transport infrastructure and support the city’s rapid growth. The western corridor has witnessed significant commercial and residential development in recent years, leading to increased traffic volumes and congestion during peak hours. The HMDA expects the elevated corridor to provide much-needed relief to daily commuters and improve overall connectivity in one of the city’s most economically important zones. Work is scheduled to commence following the completion of the tendering process and the selection of the implementing agency.
