A Hot Air Balloon Festival was launched near the historic Golconda Fort at the Golf Club premises on Friday, marking a significant addition to Telangana’s tourism offerings. Tourism and Culture Minister Jupally Krishna Rao formally inaugurated the festival and participated in an aerial ride to celebrate the opening of this new adventure tourism initiative in Hyderabad.

The Minister spent nearly one-and-a-half hours in the air during his balloon ride, covering a distance of approximately 13 kilometres. The aerial journey began near the Golconda Golf Club and concluded at the outskirts of Appajiguda, providing sweeping views of Hyderabad and its surrounding landscapes. Describing the experience as truly memorable, the Minister said the initiative marked a new chapter in the State’s tourism journey.

Jupally Krishna Rao highlighted Telangana’s approach of combining heritage with innovation in its tourism strategy. He stated that while the International Kite and Sweet Festival reflects the State’s rich culture, traditions and hospitality, events such as the Hot Air Balloon and Drone Festivals showcase modern technology and a future-oriented vision. This convergence of culture and technology is key to positioning Telangana as a contemporary tourism destination.

The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening the “Destination Telangana” brand. He emphasized that the focus was on taking the State’s natural beauty and historical legacy to a global audience. Adventure tourism initiatives would play a significant role in attracting both domestic and international tourists by offering immersive and experiential travel opportunities.

According to the Minister, the State’s new tourism policy aims to accelerate growth in the sector by attracting private investment and promoting public-private partnerships. These efforts are designed to develop world-class infrastructure and quality services. The initiatives would also generate employment and sustainable livelihood opportunities for local youth.

“The balloons rising into the sky today symbolise Telangana tourism reaching new global heights,” Jupally Krishna Rao said. He expressed confidence that such initiatives would help place the State among the country’s leading tourism destinations. The Minister invited families, youth and children to take part in the festival, stating that the event was designed to offer lasting memories for visitors.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Telangana Tourism Development Corporation Managing Director Kranthi Valluri and officials of the Tourism Department. The festival at the Golconda Fort vicinity is expected to become a regular attraction on Telangana’s expanding tourism calendar.

The Minister encouraged the public to actively participate in the celebrations. The hot air balloon festival represents the government’s broader strategy to diversify tourism offerings and create unique experiences that blend the State’s historical heritage with modern adventure activities.
