Hyderabad: A businessman from Hyderabad was tricked by cyber fraudsters and lost Rs 1.28 crore. The fraudsters pretended to offer a car dealership from a well-known company using a fake website.
The businessman, who is the Managing Director of a motor corporation, was looking online for a Kia Motors franchise. During his search, he found a website called “Kia Dealers India” and believed it to be genuine. He entered his personal and business details on the site.
Later, someone from the fake website contacted him and asked for documents like his Aadhaar card, PAN card, land agreement, and rental lease. They claimed these were needed to open a car showroom.
Over time, the fraudsters took Rs 1.28 crore from him through eight payments. They said the money was for registration, license, security deposit, NOC, insurance, and stock booking.
When they kept asking for more money, the businessman became suspicious. He contacted the real automobile company and found out the website was fake. He then filed a complaint.
The Cyberabad Cyber Crime Police have registered a case and started an investigation.
