Hyderabad continues to shiver under intense cold wave conditions as the city enters its 25th consecutive day of below-normal temperatures. Residents across various localities woke up to single-digit temperatures on December 29, marking one of the longest cold spells in recent years.
The University of Hyderabad recorded the lowest temperature in the city at 9.3°C, followed closely by Moulali at 9.8°C. Several other areas experienced temperatures hovering around 10-11°C, significantly lower than the normal winter averages for this time of year.
Rajendranagar (ARS) and Tirumalagiri both registered 10.7°C, while Gayatri Nagar recorded 10.8°C. The western and northern parts of the city, including West Marredpally, Alwal, Shapur Nagar, Quthbullapur, and Gajularamaram, all experienced temperatures between 11.0°C and 11.1°C.
The IT corridor was not spared from the chill, with Gachibowli recording 11.2°C. Industrial areas such as Macha Bollaram registered 11.3°C, while Sivarampalle and Jeedimetla recorded 11.4°C and 11.6°C respectively.
Central areas of the city showed marginally higher temperatures but remained well below comfortable levels. Ambedkar Nagar and the Cantonment Area both recorded 11.7°C. Neredmet registered 12.2°C, while Rajiv Nagar (Uppal) in the eastern part of the city recorded 12.3°C.
The official weather station at Begumpet (IMD Office) recorded 12.6°C. Other areas including Patancheru MRO Office, Kishanbagh, Addagutta, Allabada Water Reservoir, and Ziaguda all registered temperatures between 12.7°C and 12.8°C.
The old city areas were relatively warmer but still cold. Mondamarket and Sardar Mahal (Charminar) both recorded 12.9°C, making them among the warmest locations in the city on Sunday morning.
The prolonged cold wave has affected daily life across Hyderabad, with residents facing difficulties during early morning hours. The persistent low temperatures have prompted many to extend their use of winter clothing and heating arrangements well into late December.
