Hyderabad DRI seizes four elephant tusks, apprehends three over illegal ivory trade

Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officers in Hyderabad seized four elephant tusks weighing about 17 kg and several intricately carved ivory articles. They also apprehended three people allegedly involved in the illegal sale.

Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officers laid a trap and intercepted the three people while a sale transaction involving the tusks and ivory articles was underway.

The officers recovered and seized the four tusks and the carved ivory items during the operation.

The seizure was made under relevant provisions of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972. The three people were apprehended in connection with the alleged sale.

DRI said it conducts intelligence-based operations across the country to target the illegal trafficking and trade of wildlife, wildlife trophies and articles derived from protected species.
