Hyderabad – Police arrested a 40-year-old man, Chepuri Narendar, for killing a labourer and hiding the body in a building’s elevator trench in Himayatnagar on Sunday night.
Narendar, originally from Nalgonda district, was living on the streets near Himayatnagar. He has a criminal record, including a theft case from 2014 in Suryapet and a murder case in 2024 under the Chikkadpally police limits.
The murder came to light on the morning of April 28, when a security guard found the body of a man named Ajay. The body was lying in a pool of blood inside a trench dug for an elevator at a building near Punjab National Bank. Ajay, a familiar face in the area, often slept on the footpath nearby. He had suffered fatal head injuries.
According to police, Narendar and Ajay had a fight late that night. In a fit of rage, Narendar picked up a large stone and struck Ajay on the head. He then dragged the body and threw it into the elevator shaft.
Police tracked Narendar and caught him at the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station as he tried to escape the city. During questioning, he admitted to killing Ajay and dumping the body.
The case is now under active investigation.
