Hyderabad: The Hyderabad City Police have announced a major breakthrough in the murder case of senior advocate Khaja Moizuddin, who was allegedly run over by a vehicle in a planned attack near his residence in May this year. Investigators claim the incident was not a road accident but a pre-planned contract killing allegedly linked to long-standing disputes over Waqf properties and legal battles.
According to the police, the investigation revealed a carefully executed conspiracy involving multiple accused persons who allegedly monitored the advocate’s movements, arranged logistics, procured a vehicle, and carried out the fatal attack.
What Happened?
Police said that on May 23, 2026, Advocate Khaja Moizuddin had stepped out of his residence in Hyderabad during the early morning hours for his routine activities when a Mahindra Scorpio SUV allegedly rammed into him at high speed.
The impact reportedly threw him several meters away, causing severe injuries. He was initially shifted to a nearby hospital and later moved to another medical facility for treatment. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
A case was registered at Nampally Police Station, and investigators initially examined the incident as a serious vehicular attack before uncovering evidence of a larger conspiracy.
CCTV Footage Became Key Evidence
Police officials stated that CCTV footage from multiple locations played a crucial role in the investigation.
Investigators reportedly traced the movements of the accused through surveillance footage collected from different areas, including hotels and lodges where some of the suspects allegedly stayed before and after the crime.
The footage allegedly established that the vehicle involved in the incident deliberately targeted the advocate rather than causing an accidental collision.
Dispute Over Waqf Properties
According to the police investigation, a long-running dispute existed between the family of the deceased advocate and the family of one of the prime accused regarding Waqf properties and management-related issues in Hyderabad.
Officials stated that several legal, civil, criminal, and tribunal cases had been ongoing between the parties for years.
Police allege that the accused believed the advocate’s active involvement in these legal proceedings was causing them continuous legal setbacks and therefore decided to eliminate him.
Police Allege Contract Killing Plot
The police claim the murder was carried out through a contract killing arrangement.
According to the official investigation:
- The conspiracy was allegedly planned months in advance.
- Suspects reportedly conducted reconnaissance around the advocate’s residence.
- The accused allegedly tracked his daily movements and routine.
- A vehicle was procured specifically for the operation.
- Logistics and financial arrangements were allegedly coordinated through intermediaries.
Investigators stated that the attack was executed after identifying the advocate’s regular movements and selecting a suitable time and location.
Role of the Accused, According to Police
Police allege that the conspiracy was masterminded by individuals involved in the ongoing dispute with the advocate. The investigation claims that multiple persons were assigned specific roles, including arranging finances, procuring the vehicle, conducting surveillance, and coordinating the execution of the attack.
Investigators stated that one of the accused was tasked with arranging logistics and recruiting individuals who would ultimately participate in the crime. Police further allege that several meetings and planning sessions took place before the attack was carried out.
Several Accused Arrested
Hyderabad Police have arrested multiple accused persons in connection with the case.
According to the police press note:
- The alleged main conspirator and several associates have been taken into custody.
- One accused was reportedly traced and arrested from Panipat, Haryana.
- Police teams subsequently carried out coordinated operations in Hyderabad and surrounding areas to apprehend other suspects.
- Cash, mobile phones, and the vehicle allegedly used in the crime were seized during the investigation.
Officials said the accused allegedly confessed to various aspects of the planning and execution of the crime during interrogation. These claims will be subject to judicial scrutiny during the trial process.
Vehicle and Cash Seized
Police stated that the Scorpio vehicle allegedly used in the crime has been seized.
Investigators also recovered:
- Cash allegedly linked to the conspiracy
- Multiple mobile phones
- Documents and technical evidence
- Electronic communication records
The seized material is expected to form part of the prosecution’s evidence.
Attempt to Destroy Evidence Alleged
According to the police, after the crime was committed, some of the accused allegedly attempted to evade arrest and destroy evidence by removing identification marks from the vehicle and dispersing to different locations.
Investigators claim that efforts were also made to help certain accused persons avoid apprehension, prompting police teams to launch extensive search operations across multiple locations.
Further Investigation Continues
Police officials have indicated that the investigation is still underway and efforts are continuing to trace any remaining absconding suspects.
Authorities are also examining additional financial transactions, communication records, and other technical evidence to establish the complete chain of events leading to the murder.
Major Case Solved
The case had attracted significant attention within legal circles and Hyderabad’s civil society due to the victim’s standing as a practicing advocate and the allegations surrounding the motive.
With multiple arrests and detailed findings released by Hyderabad Police, the case is now expected to move into the prosecution stage, where the evidence collected during the investigation will be presented before the courts.
Police have reiterated that the investigation points to a deliberately planned criminal conspiracy rather than an accidental road incident, though the final determination of guilt will rest with the judiciary after trial.
