The Telangana government under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has accelerated plans to expand Hyderabad with the construction of 16 greenfield radial roads connecting the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to the Regional Ring Road (RRR).
The Finance Department has given initial approval for nine roads, with Rs 2,000 crore sanctioned for the first phase. The 41-kilometre road project between Raviryala and Amanal is moving forward, with the first 20 kilometres to be constructed in two phases.
Officials are preparing a Detailed Project Report for the 81-kilometre second greenfield road from Budwel to Kosgi, which will directly connect industrial areas of TGIIC. The development is expected to increase demand for residential townships, layouts, and logistic hubs.
The government has set a target of constructing approximately 12.50 lakh houses within the Regional Ring Road by 2047. The Master Plan-2050 being prepared by HMDA focuses on economic development, industrial expansion, logistics, and infrastructure development.
Hyderabad-Panaji Economic Corridor is progressing rapidly as part of the Bharatmala Pariyojana project. The central government is constructing a 4-lane expressway with an estimated investment of Rs 12,000 crore.
The most critical section is the Belgaum-Raichur Greenfield Highway in Karnataka. About 90 percent of land acquisition has been completed for this 102-kilometre highway in Bagalkot district.
This corridor will connect the fishing and pharmaceutical sectors in Goa, food grains in Belgaum, industrial areas in Raichur, and IT and pharma sectors in Hyderabad. Transportation of cement, minerals, cotton, fruits, and sugarcane will become easier, creating employment opportunities in towns and villages along the route.
The Regional Ring Road (Tripular) is being constructed approximately 40 kilometres from the existing Outer Ring Road. The Telangana government has estimated spending Rs 4,030 crore for the northern part of this project.
Officials indicate this project is crucial for expanding Hyderabad city towards the south. The government is preparing plans to expand the metropolis in all directions, including the construction of Future City towards Shamshabad, while developing industries and IT sectors around the city.
