Hyderabad is set to host the first-ever National Canine Bravery Awards, also known as K9 Heroes, at HyCan 2025 on November 8 and 9. This event will honor India’s bravest dogs.
The awards are a joint effort by the Rashtriya Raksha University’s Commando K9 Academy and the Hyderabad Canine Club. They will also mark the 150th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Dogs from various Indian armed and police forces will be recognized. Nominations include those from the SSB, CISF, BSF, NSG, and other state police departments.
K9 refers to trained dogs in police or military services. These dogs are vital for detecting explosives, tracking criminals, rescuing people in disasters, guarding sensitive areas, and boosting team morale.
Each nominated dog has shown courage, whether by finding explosives, catching criminals, or helping in disaster zones.
The National Canine Bravery Awards aim to become an annual event. It will gather security personnel, veterinary experts, and animal welfare supporters.
Organizers describe this event as a significant moment for K9 units and security forces. Official sources state that the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) have around 4,000 Police Service K9s nationwide. CRPF has 1,500 dogs, CISF has 700, and NSG has 100.
