Hyderabad has welcomed a new stroke and neurorehabilitation center that combines advanced technology with expert care. This facility, named the Center for Advanced Robotics and Recovery, opened on October 29, coinciding with World Stroke Day. Its mission is to offer rapid recovery by integrating science, data, and compassionate human care.
HCAH (HealthCare atHOME), which provides medical rehabilitation and homecare services, is behind this initiative. They plan to expand their presence to Delhi-NCR, Bangalore, Mumbai, and Kolkata soon.
In Telangana, stroke cases are rising sharply, with 20-30% of cases now occurring in urban patients aged 18 to 45. Factors like sedentary lifestyles, stress, obesity, and post-COVID complications contribute to this trend.
India has only 1,251 stroke rehabilitation centers for its 1.46 billion population, which highlights the urgent need for more advanced recovery facilities. The Hyderabad center uses robotic systems to ensure safe, accurate, and speedy rehabilitation.
The facility features Robotic Gait Training Systems, Robotic Arm and Hand Rehabilitation Units, Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES), Gamified Balance Boards, and Virtual Reality (VR) Neurotherapy. These technologies work together to help patients regain their ability to walk, move, speak, and balance.
Patients can achieve up to 1,000 guided steps in half an hour using exoskeleton-assisted gait systems that mimic natural walking while providing full support.
Dr. Gaurav Thukral, Co-Founder and President of HCAH India, emphasized the importance of the first 90 days after a stroke or major surgery in a patient’s recovery. He stated that the center aims to deliver the fastest recovery by using robotic gait systems, AI-powered dashboards, and precise data-driven therapy sessions.
Ankit Goel, co-founder and president of HCAH, explained that the lab represents their belief in scientific recovery methods. By integrating robotics, AI, and therapist expertise, they aim for a consistent and motivating recovery process. Their partnership with Apollo Ayurveda enhances the holistic healing approach.
Dr. BSV Raju, a neurosurgeon at Yashoda Hospitals, praised the robotic-assisted therapy for enabling clinicians to guide perfect movements, helping the brain relearn functions and improve neuroplasticity. The lab combines science and care, turning recovery into a journey of rediscovery.
