The Hyderabad Traffic Police has launched an awareness campaign urging all vehicle owners to update their mobile numbers and email addresses on the VAHAN Portal. The initiative aims to ensure that vehicle owners receive important communications related to their vehicles, including e-Challans, through multiple channels such as SMS, WhatsApp, and email. The traffic police emphasized that keeping contact details current is essential for staying informed about traffic violations and avoiding penalties due to missed notifications.

Vehicle owners can update their registered details by visiting the official website at http://vahan.parivahan.gov.in. The traffic police has also provided a QR code for quick and easy updates to registered mobile numbers. The process has been designed to be simple and user-friendly, allowing vehicle owners to complete the update within minutes. The VAHAN Portal serves as the central database for vehicle registration information across India and is maintained by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

According to a Government notification, challans sent to the registered mobile number or email ID available on the VAHAN Portal will be deemed as duly served to the vehicle owner. This means that vehicle owners cannot claim non-receipt of traffic violation notices if they have not updated their contact information on the portal. The notification makes it legally binding for vehicle owners to maintain accurate contact details to receive official communications from traffic authorities.
