HYDRA Commissioner AV Ranganath visited the historic Bumrukn-Ud-Dowla Lake in the old city area on Friday to assess protection measures for the water body. The Commissioner toured the lake surroundings accompanied by GHMC Zonal Commissioner Srinivas Reddy and observed damage to greenery in several areas caused by large crowds of visitors. During the evening hours, hundreds of local residents who were out for walks met with the Commissioner and raised concerns about preserving the restored lake.

Local residents praised the state government for restoring the historic Nizam-era lake and transforming it into a popular tourist destination. However, they urged HYDRA authorities to implement measures preventing further damage to the greenery around the lake due to increasing visitor footfall. The Commissioner assured locals that the government is actively considering solutions to address these concerns and shared several suggestions made by Special Principal Secretary for Municipal Administration and Urban Development Jayesh Ranjan.

The Commissioner emphasized that the government expects local residents to play a crucial role in lake protection efforts. He announced plans to form a committee comprising locals specifically for this purpose. During discussions with local police officials, he suggested establishing strict security arrangements following complaints about unruly crowds gathering at the lake premises. Several residents proposed introducing monthly and yearly passes alongside daily entry tickets to aid in lake maintenance and crowd management.

Locals pointed out that a ticketing system with different pass options would help reduce unruly crowds while generating revenue for maintenance work. They assured full cooperation with government departments in protecting the lake and maintaining its surroundings. Residents specifically requested increased police security presence at the site and urged authorities to establish a police outpost near the lake to ensure public safety and prevent antisocial activities.

The HYDRA Commissioner held detailed discussions with locals about their concerns and suggestions during the inspection visit. Authorities are now working on finalizing the structure of the local committee that will oversee lake protection measures. The government is evaluating all suggestions received from residents, including the ticketing system and enhanced security arrangements, to ensure the historic water body remains preserved for future generations.
