The Hyderabad Road Development Authority (HYDRAA) took decisive action on Tuesday by removing illegal encroachments on roads in Nizampet Municipality Ward No. 12, benefiting residents of Balaji Hills, Indiramma Colony, and surrounding areas. The move is expected to ease traffic congestion for commuters traveling through Venkatarao Nagar, KNR Colony, and Kolanu Tulasi Reddy (KTR) Colony.

Encroachments Causing Severe Traffic Issues

Complaints had been mounting about residents and shop owners illegally occupying roads by:

  • Extending apartment ramps onto the roads
  • Constructing fences and iron staircases on public pathways
  • Setting up shops and additional rooms, blocking key routes

These obstructions caused severe traffic congestion, particularly affecting:

Court Orders Ignored Until HYDRAA Action

Despite a court order mandating removal of encroachments, no action had been taken for months. HYDRAA intervened after multiple warnings and a two-month grace period given to encroachers yielded no results.

Demolitions Conducted in Presence of Officials

Under the supervision of Nizampet municipal officials, HYDRAA teams cleared:

  • Shops and unauthorized structures in Indiramma Colony
  • Fencing and extended apartment ramps blocking main roads
  • Encroachments stretching over a kilometer, providing immediate relief to commuters

Residents Welcome the Action

Locals expressed relief and satisfaction, noting that traffic flow has already improved. Balaji Hills and Indiramma Colony residents praised HYDRAA for ensuring clear access to metro stations and main roads.
