The Telangana state government has granted administrative approval for the construction of a new flyover connecting Alvin Colony in CMC to Miyapur, aimed at addressing severe traffic congestion on this busy route. The project has been sanctioned with a budget of Rs 530 crore, marking a significant infrastructure development in the city’s northwestern corridor. The flyover will pass through Anjaiah Nagar and is designed to be 1.8 kilometers long and 24 meters wide, featuring six lanes to accommodate heavy traffic flow.
Out of the total sanctioned amount, Rs 330 crore has been allocated for the actual construction work and initial land acquisition requirements. An additional Rs 200 crore has been earmarked specifically for land acquisition purposes. With the administrative permissions now in place, authorities are expected to begin the land acquisition process shortly, paving the way for the commencement of construction activities.
The new flyover is expected to significantly benefit commuters traveling from areas including Gajularamaram, Shahpur Nagar, Jeedimetla, and Chintal. Currently, residents from these localities face considerable delays as they must navigate through congested junctions at Balanagar Y Junction, Kukatpally, JNTU, Nizampet, and Hyder Nagar before reaching Miyapur, Lingampally, or Patancheru. The route is notorious for daily traffic snarls that add substantial travel time for thousands of commuters.
Once operational, the flyover will enable motorists to reach Alvin Colony via Jagadgirigutta without encountering traffic signals or congestion points. From there, they can proceed directly to their destinations along a smooth, uninterrupted corridor. This signal-free connectivity is designed to reduce travel time substantially and provide a seamless commuting experience for those traveling through this corridor.
The project is anticipated to have a ripple effect on traffic management across several key areas. Traffic volumes in Balanagar, Kukatpally, JNTU, and Nizampet are expected to decrease once the flyover becomes operational, as a significant portion of through traffic will be diverted to the new elevated corridor. The six-lane design indicates the government’s focus on creating long-term infrastructure that can handle increasing vehicular density in the rapidly developing northwestern parts of Hyderabad.
