Bandi Sanjay Kumar’s Son Moves Telangana High Court Seeking Interim Bail in POCSO Case
Bandi Bhagirath, son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, has approached the Telangana High Court seeking interim bail in connection with a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The case was filed at the Pet Basheerabad Police Station in Hyderabad, and the petition has been submitted before the vacation bench as the High Court is currently observing its summer recess.
The petition has been filed during the court’s summer vacation period, which necessitated its submission before the Vacation Bench of the Telangana High Court. The bench has scheduled the hearing of the bail petition for May 14, when it will consider the arguments presented by the petitioner’s legal counsel regarding the request for interim relief.
The case has drawn significant attention due to the involvement of the son of a prominent political figure. Bandi Sanjay Kumar, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader from Telangana, currently serves as the Minister of State in the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. The POCSO Act is a special law enacted to protect children from sexual abuse and exploitation, with stringent provisions for offenses against minors.
The Pet Basheerabad Police Station in Hyderabad registered the case, following which legal proceedings were initiated. As the matter involves serious charges under the POCSO Act, the court’s decision on the interim bail application will be closely watched. The vacation bench will examine the merits of the bail petition when it convenes on the scheduled date.
