    IIT Gandhinagar Invites Applications for MA in Society and Culture

    The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) has announced admissions for its unique MA (Society and Culture) programme, set to begin in July 2025. This interdisciplinary programme aims to equip students with skills for various roles across different fields.

    Graduates from this programme will have career opportunities in non-profit organizations (NGOs, policy think tanks) and industries such as journalism, advertising, media, communications, writing, and human resources. The programme is designed to provide a strong foundation for both professional roles and further research opportunities.

    Applications for the programme are open until January 15, 2025. Students with a bachelor’s degree in any discipline are eligible to apply. Interested candidates can submit their applications online at https://admissions.iitgn.ac.in/pgadmission/login.

    Highlighting the programme’s unique features, Prof. Jaison Manjaly, Professor of Humanities and Social Sciences at IITGN, said, “The potential of interdisciplinary knowledge and skills is enormous in our times. It leads us to new ways of thinking and solving problems. IITGN has designed its courses to be flexible and interdisciplinary to enhance students’ learning experiences. The MA in Society and Culture helps students develop diverse perspectives on social and cultural issues and understand the intersections between disciplines.”

    Prof. Manjaly, who is also the Principal Investigator of the Curiosity Lab at IIT Gandhinagar, further explained that the programme offers exposure to disciplines such as anthropology, sociology, cultural studies, development studies, economics, history, indigenous studies, philosophy, literature, and translation studies.

    To support students, IITGN provides liberal financial assistance and offers an ‘On-Campus Employment Opportunities’ programme. Additionally, students are encouraged to present their research at national and international conferences, with travel scholarships of up to Rs. 60,000 available.

    This interdisciplinary MA programme offers a unique opportunity for students to gain a nuanced understanding of society and culture, preparing them for impactful careers and advanced research.
